TRUE CRIME BOOK REVIEW

The Great Olympic Swindle
by
Andrew Jennings
Right now Toronto Ontario Canada, the city where I'm located, is trying
it's hardest to get the
2008 Olympics. So there's this controversy about whether we should spend money on
getting and hosting the Olympics or take this money and use it for the homeless, poor,
etc. I'd like
to save these people the time and money of all this investigation into what the Olympics
can
and cannot do for this city and just have them read this book. What a real eye opener.
We have all heard about the scandals currently going through the IOC but
for the most part not the
details, this book provides the details. We learn about the fixes from the boxing ring,
the bribes paid
out to certain IOC members and we also learn about Juan Antonio Samaranch, his background
and
his utter control of the IOC. Mr. Jennings provides a lot of details here AND more
importantly he names
names. The book at times can be disjointed (most likely because Clare Sambrook and
Jennings
wrote various chapters between them) and the fact that it is not chronological can be
frustrating at times
but this is a small price to pay for the information presented.
I would love to have the Olympics here, however not as long as Samaranch
and his gang are running
the show. Toronto has invested tons of cash in trying to get the Olympics time and
time again only
to be denied because our bribes aren't as good as other cities. Chances are that come June
when the winning city is announced it will be Beijing because Samaranch wants it to
happen.
And what Samaranch wants Samaranch gets. Enough is enough, it's time that the games
are no longer a blackmail opportunity for some IOC officials as Mr. Jennings states it's
time
to get our games back. Recommended.
